2012 Chronological Bible Reading Plan

TODAY'S READING

Each Wednesday night, our Pastor, Dr. Greg Belser, teaches one of the passages from our daily Bible readings and then shares a portion of that reflection here for our Saturday meditation.

The book of Genesis closes in the 50th chapter.  Jacob has died and the older brothers of Joseph are fearful that Joseph will now retaliate against them for having sold him into slavery almost 20 years earlier.  In response to their appeal for mercy, Joseph reiterates what he had already said in Chapter 45 one more time here in Chapter 50.

  • What’s the Target?

    Some of the best parenting advice that I have come across comes from a commentary on Psalm 127:3-5a which comes from the book “A Biblical Approach to Parenting.”  The verses state, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth.  Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!” The commentary says this, “…youth, like arrows from a bow, have the potential to hit targets far beyond the parents’ reach.

  • My New Ministry Calling

    About a year and a half ago I read an article that noted 96% of Americans who live in multi-housing communities are lost and disconnected from any organized church. I, like many church leaders, have tried to do ministry that “reaches” multi-housing residents, but my goal was always to invite them back into a church building on Sunday. My idea of “outreach” was formed by the belief that the lost should come to our church and get involved in our programs.

  • International Host Family Kickoff Party Moved to January 29

    New rule: Check the Chinese calendar before scheduling an international event.

    Who would have guessed that we scheduled our Host Family Kickoff party for the same day as Chinese New Year? Our Chinese friends let us know that we would have a very low turnout for the kick-off party if we held it on Sunday, January 22. So we changed the date.

    The good news is, we have lots of international students who want to participate!
