THE FUTURE IS NOW JOURNEY

 

November 1999

Future is Now Committee, Building Committee and Stewardship Committee are elected. 

 

February 2001

The church votes to purchase 48.73 acres of property fronting I-20 and located between I-20 and Highway 80 to provide for the future location of Morrison Heights Baptist Church. 

 

March 2001

One week after launching 50 days of prayer, the property purchase is closed at a total purchase price of $1,146,400. 

 

April 2001

The first service, an evening prayer vigil, is held on the new undeveloped property. 

 

August 2001

“Possessing the Land Sunday” produces faith commitments to pay off the loan on the new property by December 31, 2001. 

 

April 2002

The church begins work on preliminary site plans through JH&H architects.

 

October 2003

The church purchases 16.6 acres of additional property adjacent to the new site including 670 feet of frontage. The church pays cash for the land. The acreage makes a new site plan possible with enhanced options for future expansion. 

 

December 2003

The first capital stewardship campaign The Future Is Now – For The Next Generation concludes with commitments exceeding $4 million – four times more than any previous campaign.

 

October 2004

The city of Clinton approves the church’s new site plan. 

 

July 2005

Harrell constructing group is hired to build the new church facility. 

 

August 2005

Groundbreaking ceremonies are held on the new campus. Bank agrees to loan $13.6 million to finance phase 1 of the construction project. 

 

April 2006

The second evening service is held on the new property – this one on the concrete floor of what would become the new worship center. 

 

May 2006

The second capital campaign The Future Is Now – A Passion For His Glory concludes with commitments exceeding $8 million.

 

December 2006

The church votes to construct a new student building on the new campus to accommodate youth and college ministries. Bank agrees to loan an additional $2.5 million to finance phase 2 of the construction project.  

 

March 2007

First services are held in the new campus. Youth and college remain on Morrison Drive campus.

 

July 2007

Church votes to take the Morrison Drive campus off the market so that it can continue to house the Child Development Center, Hispanic congregation, Food and Clothing Ministry, New Counseling Ministry and up to three future new mission congregations. 

 

February 2008

Student and College Ministries building opens. Youth and College Sunday School and Wednesday worship services move to Hampstead Campus.
