Hurricane Harvey Support

We are praying for those affected by the flooding and aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in Houston, Texas, and we want to help. If you would like to join us in doing so, we have listed below several options for you to consider:

1. Donating needed items -- Morrison Heights has partnered with FBC Clinton to serve as a collection site for donations as we both share a connection with Calvary Baptist Church in Beaumont, TX. Both churches have expressed interest in wanting to help the people there, and have been provided the following list of items they are needing:

  • Contractor Trash Bags (heavy duty, not regular lawn & leaf)
  • Gallon-size hand sanitizer (using a ton since still no running water)
  • 50 ft. extension cords
  • N95 Masks (bring for yourself if coming to work or send for other workers)
  • Nitrile Gloves (against skin), Leather Gloves (outer layer)
  • Safety glasses
  • Duct Tape
  • Moisture Meters (approx. $50, looks similar to a stud finder)
  • Wide Shop Brooms with synthetic bristles
  • Squeegees

2. Volunteering to assist -- Samaritan’s Purse has relief trailers on the ground with many more on the way. Through Samaritan’s Purse, volunteers can sign up to work as teams through different phases-chainsaw, mud out, and eventually reconstruction. They work through local churches where volunteers are provided a place to sleep. Groups (including youth) can sign up to work through them at www.samaritanspurse.org/disaster/hurricane-harvey

3. Financial contributions -- If you would prefer to make a tax deductible financial donation, we would suggest you consider one of the following organizations and their online giving sites:

Relief efforts in Houston will continue for many months ahead and needs will change along the way. We will continue to work with these organizations and others as we learn of additional specific needs. If you would like to receive more information on how you can be a part of disaster response through Morrison Heights, please contact our Missions office at 601-925-6479 or by emailing Adrianna Neal at aneal@morrisonheights.org.
